Learning to Trust – How Do You Trust What Spirit Is Conveying?

One of the greatest lessons every developing medium must learn is trust. In many ways, mediumship is not about trying harder to receive information—it is about learning to trust what you are already receiving.

When Spirit communicates, the information rarely arrives as a complete conversation. More often, it comes as a fleeting thought, a mental image, a feeling, a memory, a sound, or simply an inner knowing. The analytical mind immediately wants to step in and ask, "Did I just make that up?" or "Does this even make sense?" That questioning is natural, but it is also one of the biggest obstacles to developing confidence as a medium.

If you receive an impression, there is usually a reason for it. You may not understand its meaning in the moment, and that's perfectly normal. Often, the significance becomes clear only after you continue the communication or after the recipient responds. Learning to trust the process allows Spirit to build the conversation one piece at a time.

Spirit does not communicate in spoken sentences the way we do in everyday life. Instead, Spirit often uses symbols, emotions, memories, and images that can be interpreted by the medium. Think of it as receiving pieces of a puzzle rather than the completed picture. Your role is not to invent meaning but to carefully describe what you are experiencing and allow the recipient to help confirm its significance.

This is why experienced mediums avoid filtering or changing the information simply because it seems unusual. A seemingly random object, an unexpected memory, or an emotion that appears to have no connection to you may be exactly what identifies the communicator for the person receiving the reading. It may not make sense to you, but it often makes perfect sense to the recipient.

Trust also extends beyond the information itself. As a medium, you should strive to sense the personality of the communicator. Were they humorous, quiet, stubborn, generous, or always quick with a joke? Did they have a unique habit, phrase, or way of expressing themselves? These personal characteristics are often some of the strongest pieces of evidence because they help the recipient recognize exactly who is communicating.

Every person leaves a unique energetic imprint, just as every person has a unique personality during life. The more accurately you describe those qualities, the easier it becomes for the recipient to identify their loved one.

Once the communicator has been recognized, the purpose of the communication begins to unfold. Spirit is not simply providing evidence for its own sake. The evidence builds trust between the medium and the recipient, allowing the message itself to be received with confidence. Those messages may bring healing, reassurance, guidance, forgiveness, encouragement, or simply the comforting reminder that our loved ones continue to exist beyond physical death.

Ultimately, learning to trust Spirit is also learning to trust yourself. The more you practice giving exactly what you receive—without editing, analyzing, or second-guessing—the stronger your confidence becomes. Over time, you discover that Spirit has been communicating all along. The real journey is learning to recognize that communication and having the courage to share it exactly as it comes.
